baiguai from Kung Fu Artistry discussed a rather interesting question. Should we be responsible for the experiences someone else is having during practice and should they be responsible to ours.
In the context of his story there was a grappling exercise he with lots of martial arts training but almost no grappling experience and the other partner has a lot of grappling experience and little experience in the Martial Arts.
What happened, naturally enough is that the exercise became a little too much and baiguai claimed that we have to remember the huge influence we have on other students and be careful when working with someone else.
This makes sense in a way but taking responsibility for ourselves is the most important thing in practice and outside. No one makes or breaks our training experiences or our experiences in life.
We are in complete control of the situations that we invite into our lives and we have the choice how and if to respond to all sorts of things that happen in and out of practice.
