Hi

I was just wondering how far you lot are prepared to travel to you martial arts class...

I was looking at joining a class (Hapkido) 35 miles away and would like to know if anyone travels further afield?

Regards

It depends on how important it is to YOU. There are guys in my school who drive 60 miles to train under my instructor. There are people closer to them in the same art, but they travel to my school. Why? Who knows.

The bottom line is - Is driving the distance worth it to YOU.

I used to drive 460 miles (7-1/2 hours) every month to stay with my master an learn.

I then managed to get a move with my work so that I am only about 260 miles away from there.

I travelled all over England with him and to Poland and Slovakia too.

Sadly my master passed away, but every second and every mile of those journeys were worth it!

at one point, when i started martial arts, i was walking two miles to work, then eight miles to class, then six miles home after two and a half hours of class and practice. it was about thirty minutes to work, two hours to class, then an hour and a half home. i left work at three, got to the school at five and practiced and stretched and what not until class at six-thirty, an hour class, and home by nine. dinner, bed, and up at four-thirty to start the day again. good thing i was single...shame i couldn't afford the bus... but it was lexington, kentucy, and a very pretty walk in all seasons.

mark evins do it again 14 times. good. do it again 14 times. good. do it again 14 times.

Lucky me , I have less than 0.5 mile to my karate dojo. If I ride my bike it takes about 2-3 minutes. If I was to go by car it'd take me at least 15 minutes (finding a parking spot and all).

Anyone have a shorter distance ?? That is if you're not an Uchi-dechi

Off-topic. When l was training in NYC l spent more on Tri-borough bridge tolls than l did on membership. Gotta pay a price!
