For those of us that practice martial arts as more than a form of physical exercise or balancing technique it is possible to notice changes in perspective, personality and preferences that appear gradually as a result of the more holistic practice of martial arts.

I’ve read a puny post someone blames Yoga for changing his wife and leading to a divorce. I thought it was really interesting as usually most of the spouses complaints are directed to other more western ways of self-help and self-improvements. There is actually no difference and I know some people that the practice of Tai-chi and Qi-Gong have brought about a significant change in their life style as well as in their personality.

If we think that Bushido is a code even more than it is a fighting technique than it should be clear that life-style changes can result, behavior patterns could be changed and other things can happen to influence the basic relationships of one’s life.

The best option for people who’s spouse starts to resent the changes is to have a serious conversation to clarify the points of tension, if it is the mere fact of change, you’ll probably won’t be able to do much.

It is important to acknowledge their feeling and motivate them to self-empowerment too so they won’t be threatened by your change.
