
When I’ve been to the far east I took some meditation courses some were vippassana’s courses and some were courses on Tibetan meditation. The hardest thing I had to learn was to be totally in the moment. Being in the moment means that when you walk you are conscious of your walking, using your mind to feel the movement, stay connected to my body and breathe. When I sat to meditate I was to focus on the bodily sensations, on the here and now breathe and stay focused.
I don’t know how many of you have tried it but it is really really hard especially at the beginning. The mind jumps to the interesting things that happened before or might happen in the future and it is almost impossible to do the simple thing of being in the present.
As the years past and I’ve started practicing martial arts more seriously I’ve realized that I learned one of the most important secrets for mastery in life - being in the here and now.
Each practice gets my full attention now. It is not that the internal speech is over but I catch it soon enough to bring me back to what I’m doing at this moment. If you do what you do and connect to it completely there is a good chance you’ll be able to master it much faster than in any other way.
