BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) is one style of Jiu Jitsu (which is a generic term describing many different martial arts).

Somehow I think the genuine content here is depleting in favour of the trolling.

There are differences in techniques, and in tournament rules. BJJ is often said to be 'fifty-year old jujitsu', applied a bit differently and with different emphasis. I like the change in emphasis myself.

What you will usually refer to as simply jiu-jitsu is Japanese in origin, with an emphasis on multiple opponent, throws and bone breaks(almost all of this done while standing). Its a highly brutal art that traces its origins to feudal Japanese warfare, so it isn't meant to be very pretty. AFAIK, there are no JJ tournaments, though it'd be interesting to see how they keep the combatants alive... BJJ is a modified form of JJ that emphasizes single opponent combat and ground fighting. From what I can ascertain, its approximately like high school wrestling, but a lot more brutal. I am not sure whether it uses some friendlier locks to subdue your opponent, or whether it would rather have you break their limbs(can you do this from the ground effectively?) I have no idea if there are any specifically BJJ
