You just have to feel sorry for sorry ass people who think it takes a lifetime to do something. In the Navy, you sink or swim. In the marines, you do it all or die as well. Chess, golf, baseball, etc can become extra easy under an expert. But of course lamo's like you will see on here disagree with common sense. Cus they never had it in them to do so.

Hey yeah, meplay chess jus one time and now I can be a granmaster, anyway if I no win I jus tip over da board and hit the geek
Anyways in our training we use live ammunition for gun disarms, if you gets it right then you is a overnight hexpert, if not youse dead. Keeps student numbers low mind you.
How abouts you come hear and show me if you can become an expert in sword disarms under do or die conditions? I have a lovely big sharp broadsword I likes to swing around while shouting phrases from the Bible. I'll come in giving it some 'yea though I walk through the valley of death' and try to cut your noggin off, that'll give you a real chance to become an expert real quick.

Is that why it takes (16hours x 7days x 6weeks) 652 hours of training just to complete 'basics' of how to talk, move, fire a weapon, and basic millitary procedure. This has nothing whatsoever to do with training for your actual field within the millitary and doesn't count on-the-job training.
Just basic alone, for someone that spent 2 hours per day, 3 days per week in class, would take 108 weeks (about 2 years) to meet. Gee, that sounds like what most people here are saying.
BTW, when someone gets out of HS and decides to 'sink or swin' as a doctor, how many days does it take for that to occur (I'll give you a hint, 2 years college, 4 years med school, 10 years internship)
You have never been in the millitary. If you play basketball, golf, or chess, you are not any good at them. One would think that you would have noticed the people good at all of these sports practice a lot.
Why am I feeding a troll?

I agree. For example, lot of people make fun of the fact that my cousins were beaten badly in Pride but here again is proof of time spent training. They, the Japanese, live to train and fight. It's hard to beat those so well engrained with years of experience and expertise from their culture.

The military is a different situation from the beginning. I remember one time an Air Force (!) recruiter telling me I would have to lose 20-30 pounds (I then weighed 200) before I could join up. They want to turn out combat ready troops as quickly as possible. Martial arts is a different situation
