i.d. two martial artist?

I can't seem to find these names myself.HEEEEELP. there was a guy who was asscociated with combat karate ( all I can remember) he had a hereditary disease lupus,and he wrote a book about body conditioning. I keep thinking his name is richard barathney but web searches turn up nothing. the other one was a promising competitor in the early days. he was a student of count Dante and was killed in a kwoon with a spear through the neck, I have no clue about his name. anyone have any information on either.

The 'karate wars' were mostly about various schools fighting; drive-bys, bombings, mass fights- mostly between about 1969-1975. Here in Denver we had guys go to prison, get maimed, schools blown up and shotgunned, groups of (mostly) upper level brown belts would be sent out to bust up other schools. Dante caught a lot of flak because of the 'back page of the comic book' style advertising- he would have looked the fool if his guys hadn't been such badasses <g> You asked his name and I promptly went into brainlock- he was a hairdresser if memory serves before he opened his schools- sort of a Stephen Hayes type promoter.
