IMHO, never underestimate the wisdom of age. Sounds like you are working yoruself into a negative mind set by saying what you are not (not young, not high ranked, etc.). Instead, capitilize on what you are. Practice a few straight forward techniques, stay calm and relaxed, stay out of the negative fantaises that create fear and into the positive mental rehearsals that create confidence. Most importantly, just have fun.

Remember, you are a lady hawk, fight like one.

Hmm, sounds good, I'll just add a couple of thoughts... Don't follow the advice if you're in a judo tournament. You'll be disqualified right away...right out of the tournament.

Mostly, I tell my students to keep moving...keep moving to create an opportunity, keep moving to avoid an attack. I don't how well this works if you're in a non-judo tour- nament, others would have to say. Oh, it was a joke. Pretty funny. Well, almost. Had a club member disqualified recently because of what the refs saw. Interesting situation.

The love here is truly underwhelming.

yeah, actually, at the last tournament i went to, i saw about a 5 yr white belt old do this. He wasn't DQ'd though and the other kid wasn't intimidated, but *I* laughed my ass off. Cantcha just see some big brother giving his bro some advice like this on the night before his first tournament?

Now, as for the fight like a lady hawk advise someone else gave ... this has possibilities. Whats your kiai like? Can you do a good screach?

You still never told us what kind of tournament it is or what kind of rules there are. I think that is more important than you realize, unless of course you are simply looking for meaningless plattitudes. In which case:

Keep your chin up Keep your head down. Keep a stiff upper lip When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Stick and Move. Lead, follow, or get out of the way. If a man can't see, he can't fight. If a man can't stand, he can't fight. Win one for the gipper. Rule #1: Don't talk about fight club. Rule #2: Don't talk about fight club. Exploit your opponents weaknesses. Wait for an opening, then attack. Get a MEAN ON! You can whup her, you OWN her. She's got nothing on you! HIT SOMEBODY LADYHAWK! HIT SOMEBODY!

thats all i got, i never was good at these pep talks.

Of all the platitudes in all the posts in all the world, you just had to start with the one that would get her knocked out. Way to go there.

Not in the kind of tournament she's doing. Sounds like your standard pulled punches type of thing.

Sounds like an open one.

The only advice i can think of, if you are scoring but not getting your points called, try kia'ing real loud, that tends to get thier attention. And, if you don't belong to whatever association everyone else belongs to, find one of thier patches and wear it anyway.

It's where you hit someone and they don't at least physically react to the blow. A reflex 'flinch' doesn't count.
