Gene LeBell vs. Gracie

I love the story about when the Gracies' approached Gene LeBell to tell him that they were the best Grapplers in the world. They then challenged him to a fight. Gene without batting an eye said 'Sure', but then added that he would be fighting their father, and not the younger Royce, Rickson etc.

He said that since their father taught them, that he was the best, and because both he and their father were approx. the same age, it would be a fair fight.

The Gracies' left with their tail between their legs because they didn't want their father to DIE....

Accept that your hero's have started something that they can't see through. I've seen it happen time and time again.

As far as the ultimate fighter is concerned your style is way off, your too small and weak and don't have the head for it.

You post your techniques on the net and put them in books, we will deconstruct them find the flaws and practice wrecking you in the real world, and just wait and do it there.

I think you're missing the humour in this. It seems very unlikely that the Gracies really wanted a 70 year old LaBelle to compete (it would have been embarrassing to be in the ring with a one type great now that old, in the same way that Lennox Lewis would not want to fight Ali now), tho they probably did want one of his protegees. The challenge directed at him I assume had an element of good natured teasing in it, as did LaBelle's reply. Helio's reply was a continuation of the theme.

I've never studied BJJ, and have no knowledge of the personalities of LaBelle or the Gracie's, but I'm old enough to recognize the kind of teasing that starts to happen once you get past your prime.

Why are over the hill celebrities going to have good fighters?

OHHHHH, I knew it was one of them that supposedly would put posters up offer a face smashing to anyone who wanted to see how tough they were.
