Interesting. I know several writing instructors who use 'Fight Club' regularly in their classes. (I never have; I use 'Falling Down' and 'American Beauty' frequently, though.)

First rule of American Beauty is we do not talk about American Beauty.

Second rule of American Beauty is WE DO NOT TALK ABOUT AMERICAN BEAUTY!

Doesn't really have the same ring does it?

If it's your first time, you *have to wear makeup and a sparkly dress*.

Who knows, though, it might catch on...

We can't talk about it on an open NG, However read between the lines and contact us and tell us what you think, then maybe we can proceed from there.

'For the past few years , he has been involved with an anarchist group called the Cacophonists, who stage impromptu parties and 'other events' in 'abandoned buildings'……..'.

'I felt bad I'd disappointed people by raising their expectations and offering them a product that did not 'then' exist.'

Yours truly, The Cacophonist Anarchist Group.

(culturally emasculated ?! that's funny

OK, I kinda got that from the movie. Who cares about the existential problems of the yuppie and his masculinity etc etc. Not only it is a dull and insignificant subject, it very probably deals with a false problem.

And who the hell wants to see 'deep' movies?? I remember a sequence in the Fight Club where Pitt was deep down a flight of stairs in the basement and Norton in the house was straining to make out what Pitt was saying to him

I'm not sure why the notion of 'cultural emasculation' is funny. I haven't seen the movie, so I can't comment on how it portrays this issue or that. But 'cultural emasculation' is certainly a valid topic of discussion in critical circles. Whether or not 'Fight Club' in particular does so successfully, I don't know.

I wouldn't find it surprising that Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and their producers would be worrying about emasculation; nor that it is a 'valid topic of discussion in critical circles'. Seems appropriate.

Well, guess you've got a grudge against those actors, which is fine, I guess, although it smacks of more than a little celebrity jealousy.

...obviously not in the circles you move in.
