Does anyone recall a martial arts school called the Bushidokai in Medord, Massachusetts?

It existed during the seventies and eighties. It offered classes in Kodokan Judo, Hakkoryu Jujitsu, and Shotokan Karate.

The person who ran it was one Arthur Byrnes, a policeman in Medford. He had a master's rating in Hakkoryu Jujitsu and black belts in karate and judo.

The person who instructed the karte class was one Nagao Matsuyama, his instructor, in turn, was karate master Kazumi Tabata.

Martial arts forever!!!!

There was Bushidokai Kenkyukai run by Tony Annesi out of Framingham, MA. Nice guy too. But I'm not sure that's what you meant?

I believe Sensei Matsuyama now runs the Doshi Kai Dojo in Acton, MA

Tabata is published and still very active in Shotokan Karate.

A fellow Judoka of Sensei Byrnes was Larry Garron (Former Football Player for the original "Boston Patriots" took the Bushido Kai name to Framingham, MA where it has since changed hands.

I'm not quite sure that Tabata was Nagao's direct instructor.

Tabata is the east coast equal to Fumio Demura (Karate Kid) both paying allegiance to Obata...

Bushido Kai was the original conduit for the names you mentioned.
