After watching another student test for his BB in karate today, I wondered if there wasn't another test especially designed for females? I particularly thought of the Sanchin kata & how it may not be appropriate for females (the testing student is slapped, kicked, etc while performing this kata by the Sensei).

Does anyone think that the BB requirements should be different for females?

Just curious!

Switch styles or schools if you're uncomfortable.

Nope. Learn the material, perform the material. 8 to 80, blind, crippled or crazy (just like Kevins girlfriends).

NO,NO,NO,NO,NO,NO,NO,NO,NO,NO,NO,NO! BB requirements should be the same for a man as a woman in a particular style. Why did you take up the martial arts in the first place? Why should you receive special treatment just because you are a woman? If Sanchin is part of the bb test,my advice to you is to start practicing sanchin and learn to take a punch, kick, slap, etc. Buck up,Shut up,and take it like a man....................er,woman. It's Karate, not linedancing!

NO!

We hear in every part of our lives about equality - Gender, Race, Religion, Able-bodied/Disabled, etc.

So no, it should not differ. No easy rides on this train.

Lynn,

Just one quick question for you...

If someone were trying to... hmmm.... say, -RAPE- you, do you think that they might punch, kick, or even *gasp* -slap- you?

At least your Sensei isn't also verbally abusing you while you do your Kata, unlike what's probable with the aformentioned rape attack.

Ask yourself again why you're in Martial Arts. Maybe it's time to take up Tae Bo (I hope not).

Good luck in your training and in your next test (I sure hope you keep at it).

Peace favor your sword,
