Odd question, but perhaps someone knows the answer... I have a rubber baton (KBG style) with steel frame, and I wonder if the rubber needs to be treated or protected in any way, to prevent the rubber from hardening or cracking with time.

If you see signs of 'drying', you might consider bathing it in glycerin- the regular stuff will work just fine, no reason to pay for the pharmaceutical grade. It also works well for bone, ivory, chatoyant stones like tiger eye or opal, mother of pearl, real pearls and so on.
