An Interesting Perspective On Corrections

I can be a very stubborn woman at times. I’m only able to really learn when I agree that being right, or appearing as if I know what I’m doing is much less important than actually learning.

Even then there are ways I “defend” myself against improvement. For me at least it can happen in two opposing extremes. Either I’ll resent all suggestions for correction, by I can’t stand or move like this. It is not possible or the real killer it is not possible for me.

Now the “poor” Sensei would have an almost impossible mission making me even try to attempt the improved posture. After I react with all the negative possible ways and excuses.

Usually I really need some time to absorb so the next practice I start with the posture I declared to be impossible for me to achieve just days before.

The second extreme is asking for corrections even when I’ve haven’t fully mastered the previous ones.

I know that the process of improving is really individual, sometimes I’m so eager to learn that I’ll try to run much faster than I can and other times I’ll feel like I’m asked to do the impossible and wouldn’t move at all for awhile.

Reading the post on Total Karate about corrections made me think about the times when the demands seem impossible and realize that if they were impossible I wouldn’t be asked to meet them.

I’ll try to remember than when I’m asked to move to the next level it is because I can, even if it is difficult at time to achieve a whole new balance after I started feeling comfortable at the previous level.
